I am the business developer of a start up WISP (2.4ghz) based in Africa.

I have been studying wimax for a long time +-3 years and i start this year with wifi bcs i cant get wimax license.

As i developed my study about wifi i start to think that is the best suitable technology to use in here.

Soon i will have fome budget to start the wisp.

I plan to cover arround 50 km2 at the end of the first year.
10 kms by 5 more or less.

In the first fase i plan to test equipment ,processes, customer support etc.

Some one knows about a good crm for wisp?

I will oportunity to place antennas in high places that will have los to almosta all adressable region.

The backhaul costs are very high about 4000/month for 2048k so i plan to start with this one.

Since i have a lot of info bcs i read everything Smile about the subject but i never actually done a network.

Now i have a 2 computers to start up lol... I mean i have a personal laptop powerfull on and o have a core duo server where i am testing things.I have VMWARE with mikrotik working very well i am learning mikrotik and at the moment i feel very confortable with it.

I am going to start installing fedora 10 in the vm to install radius manager.
to manage clientes.

I am using a WAP linksys to test the access with dd-wrt

I am in conversation with wavion to buy a test kit from them for about 4500 usd with some nano station and a alfa 500mw cpe.I think its quite expensive but i read on forum that the solution its quite good due to their adaptive antenna system and interference mitigation and range.Do u think i could have a better solution with ubiquiti?

I will use ps5 for my point to point solution .

I explained my situaitio +-

I would like to know if u will be willing to help me in this start up journey ?

designing network access and core network and some other things ?

I dont quite know what router to use for the transport, and switches and load balancer etc and for the access i would like to find the best solution.

I plan to project a network that is able to serve arround 500 customers since i dont want to have problems if demand rises very quick.

Since i read a lot of things i quite confortable with almost everything but i woul like to have an opinion from an expert.

Regards and thanks for your time and attention.

i would recommend using Motorola Canopy 900Mhz
and get a NETEQ to equalize the traffic

a lot of people here do very well with Mikrotik access point (with XR2 or XR5 or XR9 cards) and Nano, Loco and Powerstation for customers end.

If you are already comfortable with Mtik, a even better reason to look at it. Many people do not like the learning curve.

Yes, the Motorola is reliable: and more expensive.

Hi sir tks for your reply

I am planning to use this config

mik 600a
2 mini pci r52n
4 17 dbi sector antennas

But i havent a clue how many clientes
this base station could support i guess around 200 but not sure
and i am not sure about throughput either i am waiting for some testing result since r52n just got out last week

I am going to do some trainning in south africa in july after i can help other people as well :)

Yes, the Motorola is reliable: and more expensive.

I can only use 2.4ghz

At the moment i can share some knowledge to the ones starting have a look at fedora 10 isp3 perfect server its linux but anyway i am having a go and i am quite happy with it i thinks is a good and cheap solution to have web server ftp dns dhcp mail server phpmyadmin and some other goodies have a look people ...

thanks for your time i really would like more people to participate in this topic since i am a start up i need help since i never did a network but i have a lot of teory practoces best practices etc and someone could help me with the other practical and hands on things that i dont have

at the moment i am waiting on r52n test from some company to decide
