I just received an SR71-C to test at our facility, but I'm having a configuration issue. Our network runs Cisco LEAP security, and while I was easily able to configure a UBiQUiTi SuperRange Cardbus for testing on our LEAP network (WIth its client software), I can't configure the SR71-C.

The SR71-C shipped with a CD that had a single executable that installs a driver for the card, but it doesn't have any client software that installs, so my only configuration option is Windows, which doesn't have a way to configure LEAP.

I tried the client utility that came with the SuperRange Cardbus, but it doesn't see/recognize the SR71-C.

Any help, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ted

I recently purchased an SR71-C but I’ve so far found no help in getting it to perform well at all. My internal laptop card gets a higher signal quality and picks up more networks than this $150 downgrade of a card plus two bulky antennas.

The CD it came with has just one file (two if you count the autoplay.ini). These drivers allow me to connect via Windows connect Utility at a LOWER connection quality than my computer’s internal adapter, though I have two monstrous antennas clipped on my laptop monitor now.

I tried your website for help but it is a convoluted process with conflicting information.

(http://www.ubnt.com/products/sr71c.php)
Starting on the Products page I see that the SR71-C says “operating system support is LINUX”. Your distributor has advertised it as an XP compatible card and I hope it wasn’t false advertising so I continue;

From Products Page for the SR71-C I navigate the left menu and chose OS / Drivers => Mobility Driver.

(http://www.ubnt.com/products/mobdriver.php)
This offers me some hope that it’s not just for Linux. The bottom page shows support for Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista… actually everything EXCEPT Linux. I Click =>Download at the top.

(http://www.ubnt.com/support/mobdriver.php)
Here the bottom of the page says “Driver Compatibility: SR2, SR5, SR4, SR9, XR2, XR5, XR9, SR4C, SRC, SRX”. I’m assuming that SRC is equivalent term for the SR71C;

I Tried Ubiquiti Mobility Driver v7.7; it tells me that a compatible card is not inserted. I finish the install For Drivers and Ubiquiti Client Utility despite the warning since my card was INDEED inserted. The UCU offers me just grayed out menus and no connection.

I use add/remove to uninstall and get error “The Driver files you wish to remove will not be removed as the corresponding card is not inserted”. (It’s inserted) after uninstall I’m given no choice but to restart (how archaic is this, a warning that you must restart and an OK button; no choice in the matter).

So now I go to Support tab (Top) First, instead of products page.
Then Select (Left) Mobility/Portable => SR71-C

(http://www.ubnt.com/support/sr71c.php)
I get two choices here. A link to SR71 Driver 1.2.1 from March, and a link to the Mobility Driver Download page again; the one that I just tried and it didn’t work. So I download the Ubiquiti SR71 Drivers v1.2.1 (exe).

Also from some pages on the website if I click OS/Drivers => Windows Drivers
I'm delivered to http://www.ubnt.com/support/windrivers.php (instead of mobdriver)

This has the same links but says that the 7.7 mobile driver is for a/b/g series and that the SR71 drivers are for the n series only and is a VISTA DRIVER.

So… Help me out please. Which drivers do I need for windows XP? Do I need both the mobility 7.7 and the SR71 1.2.1? Is there a specific order I need to install them? Why is there no documentation on this that comes with the card? Can I use the UCU with my card in XP?

Wizardtom, thanks for posting all those details! They describe the exact symptoms I'm seeing, so I knew I wasn't doing something wrong. In another post on this forum ( http://forum.ubnt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10792 ) Ubiquiti acknowledge there is no client utility for the SR71 but that the standard Atheros Client Utility should work.

So here's my solution for you. At

(or from Toshiba's website if you look hard enough) you can download Toshiba's latest version of the ACU. The problem is that the Toshiba installer checks to make sure the computer it's running on is a Toshiba computer. If it's not, the installer will terminate. But here's the trick:

1) Run the TC00147400C.exe install program in the downloaded ZIP. An initial "Archive Extractor" window will pop up.
2) Click Options, then Browse, and point it to a folder you want the stuff in.
3) Uncheck the "Run command after extraction" option. This will prevent the Toshiba installer from running, realizing you don't have a Toshiba computer, and so immediately deleting the extracted files to clean up after itself.
4) Click Next and then Start.
5) Navigate to the folder you pointed to and in there will be a "XpUtl" folder which contains the setup program for just the non-Toshiba-specific Atheros Client Utility.

I did this, installed the ACU, and it works perfectly with my SR71-C and gives lots of options and status feedback that the Windows wireless management won't. :D

Best regards,
Jim
